Commissioner teams up with Santa to deliver gifts

Santa stopped by Police Headquarters earlier today, just in time to aid with the Commissioner’s Christmas Gift Drive, Queensland Police say.

This festive season will see the gift drive in its 24th year of bringing joy to children identified by police and other Queensland Government agencies as being at-risk or disadvantaged.

Santa joined Commissioner Ian Stewart in the headquarters atrium to present a small number of these children with their very own gifts. The children were also treated with appearances from handlers and puppies from the Dog Squad, officers from the Bike Squad, Constable Clancy the Koala, Seymour the Owl and a performance from the police choir, ‘Melody In Blue’.

This year’s gift drive will deliver donated toys to 976 disadvantaged children, hailing from locations around the South-East such as Caloundra, Maroochydore, Forest Lake, Inala, Ipswich South and Zillmere.

Commissioner Stewart commended the vast support that the gift drive continues to receive each year.

"I would like to thank the Queensland Police Service family for their generosity in donating gifts and financial contributions which make this event possible," Commissioner Stewart said.

This generosity was highlighted through the packed QPS collection points spread across the South-East, which included Police Headquarters, the Oxley Police Academy, Policelink, and numerous stations ranging from Deception Bay through to Beenleigh.

A special thanks is also given for the generous donations and support received by Variety – The Children’s Charity, Queensland Country Women’s Association and QBANK.
