Committee to discuss Australia's aid program with DFAT

A parliamentary committee will discuss Australia’s aid program with government officials tomorrow.

The Foreign Affairs and Aid Sub-Committee of the Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade is examining the strategic effectiveness and outcomes of Australia’s aid program, particularly the role of the private sector, local procurement, trade development and innovation, and improving outcomes for women and girls. The Sub-Committee will meet with representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) at a public hearing on 21 June in Canberra.

Chair of the Sub‑Committee, Mr Chris Crewther MP, said the Sub-Committee welcomed the opportunity to discuss Australia’s aid program with DFAT.

"The Sub‑Committee looks forward to exploring the broad range of programs supported by Australian aid, and how these programs ensure that our aid dollars are helping our regional partners build strong, prosperous and sustainable local economies," Mr Crewther said.

The program is available from the committee’s website: www.aph.gov.au/aidprogramoutcomes.

This hearing will be streamed live at www.aph.gov.au/live.
