Community Art Shines In Latest Exhibition At Gallery

A large crowd gathered at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery recently for the opening of the latest community exhibition, Roots & Reflections.

Curated by Gallery Coordinator Melanie Toscan, it contains works from many of the region's talented artists and will be on display until Sunday, 3 May 2026.

Artists were invited to contribute works that resonated with the given theme, drawing from their own experiences and background, to convey creative works that are meaningful to them. With over 60 artworks submitted, visitors to the exhibition will see a wide range of artforms including sculpture, painting, photography and even a 3D installation from artists Di Tarr and Lisa Taliano that includes photographic contributions from members of the public.

One section of the exhibition contains unlabelled paintings of a set size, that have been submitted and hung without the artist's name attached. These works are all for sale for a set price of $85 and the artist's name will only be revealed to the buyer at the conclusion of the exhibition, creating an air of mystery around the exhibition.

Gallery Coordinator Melanie Toscan said there was a buzz in the room on opening night, and people really loved meeting the many artists and viewing their works.

"Some of the artworks have already sold and the artists are so excited to have sold their works, even if some of the buyers don't know yet whose work they have purchased," she said.

"We are so pleased with the number and the standard of the entries. It's a wonderful representation of artists in our community and is the highest number of entries in a community exhibition in recent times.

"I think this demonstrates that art is well and truly alive in Griffith and I'm excited for the rest of the community to come and visit the Gallery to see the exhibition and the talent our city holds."

Roots & Reflections is on exhibition at the Griffith Regional Art Gallery until 3 May 2026. The Gallery is open Wednesday – Friday from 10am-5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 11am - 2pm.
