Townsville City Council has provided close to $800,000 in grants and in-kind support to community groups and businesses across Townsville in the past 12 months.
Community and Cultural Development Committee Chair Cr Colleen Doyle said council had a range of grants programs on offer, including Townsville City Grants and Partnerships, the Mayor's Community Assistance Grants and Councillors' Discretionary Grants.
Cr Doyle said the Townsville City Grants and Partnerships program was launched in early 2019 in an effort to streamline the application process and shorten assessment timeframes.
"There are so many great community groups and businesses across the city that work to make Townsville an even better place to live," Cr Doyle said.
"That's why Council launched a new, simpler, faster and better grants program to support community groups and other organisations either through funding or in-kind support."
Grants and Partnerships or in-kind support have been provided for 165 projects such as the Townsville Triathlon Festival, the Rollingstone Pineapple Festival, NAIDOC Week, Stable on The Strand, Light the Night and the Townsville Choral Society's recent production of Mamma Mia.
Townsville City Grants and Partnerships has three main grant categories – economic, social and environmental – which align with Council's corporate goals.
Cr Doyle said Council had a strong focus on developing, supporting and building the Townsville community.
"Economic grants will develop a prosperous city, social grants will support a city for the people and environmental grants will build a clean and green community," Cr Doyle said.
"Community organisations applying for grants of less than $5000 should know the outcome within four weeks."
