Community Information Sessions: Snowy Monaro Aged Care EOI Process

Community information sessions will be held in Berridale and Cooma Tuesday 8 June to explain the expression of interest (EOI) process Council is undertaking to find a new operator for Yallambee Lodge and Snowy River Hostel aged care facilities.

The sessions will be from 5pm to 6pm at Berridale Hall and from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at the Cooma Ex-Services Club. No registration is required. Community members are welcome to attend.

"Council is committed to being open and transparent throughout this process. We have held two rounds of briefings in the homes for residents and families and staff, with individual support and information available," Mayor Peter Beer, said.

"These community sessions will give the broader community the opportunity to more fully understand what's happening with Council's aged care facilities.

"Anyone with questions about the EOI process or the future of aged care in our region should be sure to attend these sessions."

A national market sounding process aiming to attract leading specialist residential aged care providers to take on ownership and operation of Council's residential aged care facilities commenced earlier this month.

This builds on the process commenced last year utilising Federal Government funding to explore the transition of aged care services to an external provider.

Mayor Beer said Council aimed to ensure that "seniors across the region can continue to access high-quality residential care in their communities, now and into the future".

He said organisations expressing interest would need to be in line with council and community values, demonstrate their track record in delivering quality care and show how they would offer roles to existing employees.

"Safeguards are also in place for residents. Residents have security of tenure by law and their resident agreements will continue. Current residents cannot be asked to pay a new or higher accommodation deposit."
