Swan Hill Rural City Council is inviting residents, businesses and visitors to help shape the future of the city centre through the development of the Swan Hill Central Business Precinct Masterplan — a long-term vision guiding how the CBD will look, feel and function to 2050 and beyond.
The Masterplan sets out a shared community vision for a more welcoming city centre, with improved walking connections, safer streets, stronger links to the Murray River and more reasons for people to spend time in Swan Hill. It will guide future Council and private investment, support local businesses and ensure the CBD reflects Swan Hill's unique identity, climate and community needs.
Director Development and Planning Michelle Grainger said community feedback is essential to shaping a vibrant and sustainable future for the heart of Swan Hill.
"This Masterplan is about creating a thriving, people-focused centre that celebrates Swan Hill's character — from our river and agricultural heritage to our local stories and businesses," Ms Grainger said.
"We want to hear from residents, traders and visitors about what they value most and what improvements would make the biggest difference, both now and into the future."
The community-led Masterplan will guide priorities including:
Spaces that support outdoor dining, markets, events and night-time activity
Safer, more accessible walking connections and crossings
Stronger links between the CBD and the Murray River
Sustainable, climate-resilient streets with more trees and shade
A staged approach to future upgrades as funding opportunities arise
Cooler, greener and more comfortable streets and public spaces
Council representatives, along with Hanson Partnership consultants, will be at the Community Tree in Swan Hill CBD this Friday and Saturday gathering feedback in person. Community members can also complete the survey online at letstalk.swanhill.vic.gov.au. Survey closes 20 March 2026.
Participants who complete the survey either online or in person will go in the draw to win one of two $50 Swan Hill shopping vouchers.
