Griffith City Council has commenced community consultation to inform the development of its next Disability Inclusion Action Plan, signalling a renewed commitment to strengthening accessibility and inclusion across the local government area.
Under the Disability Inclusion Act 2014, councils are required to prepare and implement a Disability Inclusion Plan to drive meaningful, measurable change.
The Plan will outline the strategic actions Council must take over the next four years to ensure people with disability can participate fully in community life and access services, facilities, activities and opportunities on an equal basis. It will also support broader community needs, recognising that improved access benefits everyone from older residents to families with prams and people recovering from injury.
The new Plan will balance short, medium and long term priorities. While some initiatives may require future budget consideration, others such as enhancing the accessibility of Council information can be delivered with minimal cost. All actions with financial implications will be evaluated through Council's standard budgeting processes and progressed as resources permit.
Council is now inviting the community to share their insights, experiences and ideas to help shape the Plan. Residents, carers, service providers, business operators and anyone with an interest in building a more accessible and inclusive Griffith are encouraged to participate.
Community members are encouraged to share their views by completing the online survey at https://connect.griffith.nsw.gov.au/disability-inclusion-access-plan
Community feedback will play a critical role in ensuring the Plan reflects local needs and drives practical outcomes.
