Campaspe Shire Council is inviting community members to attend an upcoming information session about a bid to have the Victorian Goldfields included on the World Heritage List, providing residents with an opportunity to learn about the proposal and speak directly with representatives from the bid team.
Council is facilitating the drop-in session at the request of Heritage Victoria and the bid team.
The drop‑in session will be held on Tuesday 26 May, from 10am to 2pm, at the Rushworth Service Centre, 33 High Street, Rushworth. Community members are welcome to attend at any time throughout the session.
The Victorian Goldfields World Heritage bid aims to recognise and protect the internationally significant gold rush-era landscapes, architecture, and cultural heritage that shaped much of regional Victoria. Achieving UNESCO World Heritage status has the potential to boost tourism, strengthen regional economies, and showcase the unique history of local communities.
Campaspe Shire Mayor Cr Daniel Mackrell said the session was an opportunity for residents to hear firsthand about the progress of the bid and what World Heritage listing could mean for Campaspe Shire and the broader region.
"We're pleased to be hosting the Victorian Goldfields World Heritage bid team in Rushworth again.
"Last year's drop‑in session was well attended and provided invaluable insights for both community members and the project team," Cr Mackrell said.
"This year's session will offer updated information, visual displays, and the chance for residents to ask questions in an informal setting."
Representatives from the bid team will be available throughout the session to share information, answer questions, and discuss the next stages of the nomination process. Visual displays, maps, and brochures will also be available, and light refreshments will be provided.
