To mark the 2022 flood event that devastated the Northern Rivers region, the community is invited to attend a free event at Brunswick Heads, which will be held on Wednesday 28 February from 3pm until 6pm, near the Sound Shell.

Byron Shire Mayor, Michael Lyon, said that the focus of the event will be on bringing the community together to support one another and reflect on the last two years.

"Many Byron Shire residents were severely affected by the 2022 natural disasters. It is important to mark the two-year anniversary and acknowledge that many in our community are still very much in recovery mode." Byron Shire Mayor, Michael Lyon, said.

"I invite everyone to come together and reflect on the flood event and the recovery journey so far.

"We know there is still a long way to go on this journey," he said.

The flood anniversary event will include opportunities to:

  • Create a symbolic art piece from natural materials.
  • Hear from inspiring guest speakers.
  • Enjoy some live music and light refreshments.

Support services will be available on the day and the event is sponsored by New South Wales and Australian Governments.
