As part of NAIDOC Week celebrations, Council is hosting its annual flag raising event at the Nowra Administration Building on Monday 7 July at 10am.
The community is invited to attend the ceremony which will feature a Welcome to Country, traditional song and dance, raising of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, followed by morning tea.
Mayor Patricia White said the flag raising event celebrates and recognises the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Shoalhaven community.
"Flying the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags demonstrates Australia's recognition of First Nations peoples and promotes a sense of community partnership and a commitment toward reconciliation," Cr White said.
"This event has become a staple in Council's calendar to recognise NAIDOC Week and the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples," she said.
