Applications are now open for the 2026 Moira Shire Community Leadership Program. The Program supports local people who want to step forward, contribute and serve their community.
Council encourages residents to apply early and not miss out on this important skill-building opportunity.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson PSM said Council remains committed to supporting emerging leaders.
"The Community Leadership Program helps participants build confidence and develop the skills they need to take on roles in community groups, organisations and committees," Dr Emonson said.
"Most importantly, it fosters connection. It brings people together and helps us understand the many different backgrounds, interests and stories that make up our community."
"Connection is a core element. Participants learn alongside like-minded residents, community groups, council representative and industry experts. Together, they gain the knowledge they need to lead in their own lives and in their communities."
After three successful rounds and 37 graduates in 2024 and 2025, the 2026 program offers a more flexible and accessible structure. Sessions will run fortnightly, giving participants more time to balance work, family and community commitments. The program schedule can be viewed at https://www.moira.vic.gov.au/Community-Leadership-Program
Participants will build practical leadership skills, including public speaking, governance, strategy, communication and values-based leadership. The program also explores leadership during emergencies, drawing on Moira Shire's experience in the 2022 floods and the January fire events.
The program is open to all Moira Shire residents aged 18 years and over. People from all backgrounds, townships and life experiences are encouraged to apply.
