Confirmed Covid case in Parkes

Parkes Shire

A positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the Parkes community.

Mayor of Parkes Shire Cr Ken Keith OAM said, "We have suspected for over a week now that there is someone with COVID-19 in our community, due to fragments of the virus being detected in our sewerage.

"This is not a time for blame or social media witch hunts - this is a time for us to pull together as a community," said Cr Ken Keith.

Council is expecting a list of contact sites to be released in the next couple of hours. Close contacts will also be contacted by NSW Health.

"If you are worried at all, please get tested! We need to work together to protect the community. NSW Health have advised that the drive through COVID-19 testing clinic located at the Parkes Showground will continue through until Friday 27 August 2021, however, we really need to get our testing rates up - if you have any symptoms or have been to any of the areas of concern, outside the Parkes region, please get tested and take your family with you.

"I also strongly urge everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated to do so as soon as possible."

There will be a pop-up vaccination clinic at Northparkes Oval this week at the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday 24th August, 10am - 4pm
  • Wednesday 25th August, 9am - 4pm
  • Thursday 26th August, 9am - 3pm
