The Palaszczuk Government has opened a new online portal that will connect Queenslanders who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 with new job opportunities.
Deputy Premier and Treasurer Jackie Trad said the new Jobs Finder Queensland web portal was the latest initiative to come into effect as part the Palaszczuk Government's $4 billion package of measures to support Queenslanders' health, Queensland jobs and Queensland businesses.
"We know so many Queenslanders are doing it tough right now with thousands of businesses shutting their doors and workers losing their jobs or income because of COVID-19," Ms Trad said.
"Protecting Queenslanders health, Queensland jobs and businesses remain the top priorities of the Palaszczuk Government.
"Jobs Finder Queensland is an important first step in restoring opportunity to Queenslanders out of work and is just one way we are continuing support Queensland jobs.
"This new online portal will allow Queenslanders who are looking for work to provide information on their skills, location and work experience.
"That information can then be readily matched to available jobs.
"A key focus will be on matching them with new jobs that are being created, especially those in areas of critical service delivery.
"We are seeing demand in a wide range of industries including health care, agriculture, food production, transport, cleaning and mining."
"This initiative will bring employers seeking staff and workers seeking employment together."
Minister for Employment and Small Business Shannon Fentiman said the portal will not only connect Queenslanders with jobs but will also link them with free online training courses.
"We are here to support Queenslanders who have found themselves out of work due to COVID-19 – that's why we have introduced a suite of free, short online training courses," Ms Fentiman said.
"The Jobs Finder Queensland portal includes access to nine free, short online training courses in a range of valuable skill sets in areas such as food service, health and aged care, transport as well as mental health support.
"This will provide people with the skills to get a job in the in-demand and critical industries."
"There will also be a range of free short courses on offer in areas such as digital literacy, cyber security and business which will be valuable for Queenslanders looking to upskill and increase their capabilities so they are better prepared to take up job opportunities when the economy recovers."
"Any worker, who has been stood down, made redundant or has lost their job can register through the Jobs Finder Queenslandportal."
"We will be working with the recruitment and staffing industry body to share information on job seekers to match them to potential opportunities."
Minister Fentiman said the next step was for the recently convened Worker Assistance Taskforce to help the government design and implement its suite of responses in this rapidly changing environment.
