Ground has officially broken at the site of a brand-new emergency services precinct at Caloundra South today with 30 additional police committed to the facility.

Ten of these officers have already been appointed and are currently working from the Caloundra Police Station, and the remaining 20 will be appointed in 2024 at the completion of construction.

The Caloundra South police facility project is allocated $13.5 million and will neighbour a $7.9 million state-of-the-art ambulance station and $8.5 million Fire and Rescue Service (FRS) station.

This investment will enhance the number of police facilities in the Caloundra area and the total number of police officers based in this community over time.

The new police facility will include a general duties dayroom, duty officer station, investigation workspaces, interview rooms, conference/major incident rooms, property storage, gymnasium, and staff locker room.

The new site was identified for construction in 2021, with the investment reflecting the fact that the Sunshine Coast is a growing region and is estimated to have a population of 50,000 at the time of completion.

Minister Mark Ryan said "Investments like this are part of a watershed investment in policing across Queensland that will see the delivery of an extra 2,025 police personnel and a $300 million capital works program."

Commissioner Katarina Carroll said "We know the Sunshine Coast and in particular, the Caloundra area continues to see rapid growth in population and infrastructure.

"It is very exciting to see this work underway, and I look forward to the resources this will provide Caloundra Police to deliver efficient policing in the area."
