Work has commenced on the highly anticipated upgrade of Woodbury Reserve in Glossodia – one of our City's suite of transformational Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant projects.
The Masterplan for Woodbury Reserve was adopted in February 2022 after extensive community consultation, and this project is transforming the reserve into a modern recreation hub, delivering much-needed facilities for Glossodia and the surrounding area.
Construction officially commenced on Monday 19 January 2026, with Hon. Peter Primrose MLC, Government Spokesperson for Hawkesbury, Susan Templeman MP, Member for Macquarie and Mayor Les Sheather acknowledging the start of works on the project. Construction is scheduled to be completed in mid-2027, weather permitting.
Once complete, Woodbury Reserve will provide the Glossodia community and surrounds with new multi-purpose courts, a modern amenities building, upgraded practice cricket nets, improved and additional parking, a multi-age play area for children, and enhanced accessibility throughout the park and natural areas.
A shared path network will improve connectivity within the reserve, while additional shelters with barbecue facilities will provide spaces for community gatherings. The skate park, already established, along with the BMX Pump Track and Mountain Bike Trails completed in August 2024, will continue to offer exciting active recreation opportunities.
Government Spokesperson for Hawkesbury, the Hon. Peter Primrose MLC said "The Woodbury Reserve Upgrade is great news for Glossodia and the whole Hawkesbury Community. The new facilities will encourage healthy, outdoor activities at a special place already loved by locals and visitors."
Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman, said: "Having secured $3 million in federal funding for Woodbury Reserve back in 2022, when the Albanese government was first elected, I'm really pleased that construction is now underway.
Upgrading Woodbury Reserve means that Glossodia residents and those nearby will have better facilities close to home, with accessible pathways meaning more of our community can enjoy this space. I know our community will be eagerly following Council's progress".
Hawkesbury City Mayor Les Sheather Mayor welcomed the beginning of works.
"This upgrade is an exciting step forward for the people of Glossodia and surrounding areas. It will deliver a diverse range of facilities for sport, play, and community gatherings, creating a welcoming place for all ages and abilities," Mayor Sheather said.
"Council is committed to providing a diverse range of recreation and community facilities for all Hawkesbury residents, that will be loved and enjoyed for generations to come. We're thrilled to see construction underway and thank our State and Federal partners for their support."
The Woodbury Reserve redevelopment is proudly funded by the NSW Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program and the Australian Government's Priority Community Infrastructure Program, in association with Hawkesbury City Council.
The BMX Pump Track and Mountain Bike Trails were delivered with additional funding from the NSW Government's Open Spaces Program: Places to Play grant ($455,000).
