Construction Underway on New Sadadeen Zone Substation Upgrade

TheTerritory Labor Government is investing in the future of Alice Springs.

Due toaged infrastructure and increased maintenance costs, Power and Water isupgrading the Sadadeen Substation to increase reliability and security of theAlice Springs power network.

This$11.85 million project will replace the existing building and install new 11kVAir Insulated Switchgear (AIS). The new switchgear will replace existingsystems which is approaching the end of its life.

Asubstation is infrastructure where electricity voltage is stepped up fortransmission (to send over long distances) or stepped down for distribution (toindividual households). This essential infrastructure ensures that power usersreceive the right voltage for their needs.

Theupgrade will support up to 30 jobs during the construction and will alsosupport Alice Springs hardware, freight and hotel businesses.

Allworks are scheduled to be complete by April 2020 and the new equipment fullyoperational by August 2020.

Powerand Water aims to have as little impact as possible on adjacent neighbourhoodsand residents, while works take place.

This is part of the LaborGovernments commitment to keeping power assets in public hands, unlike theCLPs record of selling public assets and raising power prices.
