Construction is well underway in Blacktown City Council's program to upgrade seven playgrounds in parks and reserves across the City. The program will see nearly $900,000 of playground improvements.
Work started recently in Quakers Hill Park with new facilities including swings for all ages, two slides, climbing ladders and bars to be installed in the eastern corner of the park near Hambledon Rd and Walker St.
Blacktown City Deputy Mayor Tony Bleasdale and Councillors Chris Quilkey and Moninder Singh took time out to inspect the works in Quakers Hill Park. $128,000 has been budgeted for the upgrade.
Deputy Mayor Tony Bleasdale said: "Playgrounds provide valuable places for children of varying ages and abilities to have unstructured play and physical activity.
"Council recognises the importance of building safe and inclusive playgrounds and Council will continue to allocate funding to build new and improved open space facilities throughout our City.
Council undertook an extensive program of community consultation before deciding on the final designs for the upgrades. Feedback was also received from the Touched by Olivia Foundation to ensure all playgrounds were available and inclusive for all.
The seven parks included in the playground upgrades are:
- Quakers Hill Park, Quakers Hill
- Katrina Park, Seven Hills
- Snowy Reserve, Seven Hills
- Wyanda Reserve, Dhurruk
- Ridgeview Park, Riverstone
- Chopin Reserve, Seven Hills
- Luke Park, Mount Druitt
