A new Lake Mac Arts festival is poised to showcase some of Australia's most talented and innovative contemporary dancers across four days of performances, panels and programming.

The Impact Dance Festival, held at Warners Bay Theatre, baramayiba, from 28-31 August, will feature two nights of the triple-bill performances featuring leading independent choreographers, Tra Mi Dinh, Anton and Sara Black.

Internationally renowned choreographer Stephanie Lake will also appear, in conversation to discuss her creative journey, choreographic process and bold vision for the future of contemporary dance.

Lake Macquarie City Council Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said the festival featured four days of cutting-edge contemporary professional performances, site-specific works, dance workshops, artist talks, networking and a free community dance event.

"Impact Dance Festival invites everyone, from dancers to creative professionals and curious audiences to experience the transformative power of contemporary dance," she said.

"Audiences can expect a powerful lineup of commissioned works, selected through a national competitive process."

"The festival will also host intensive workshops to support professional and emerging dance artists, led by prominent choreographers."

Other features include:

  • Artist discussion panels
  • First Nations-led programming
  • Cultural protocol and safe-space workshops
  • An 'Art and Insight' day of arts conversations and panel discussions.

The four-day program concludes with a free night of social dancing on Sunday 31 August, including the Dance Makers Collective.

The Impact Dance Festival is supported by Creative Australia, the NSW Government and Catapult Dance Choreographic Hub.
