Cooma's Rotary Oval Steam Train Playground Reopens

A multi-coloured playground steam train glistens in the autumn sun after installation at Cooma Rotary Oval, with soft-fall tanbark and other playground equipment surrounding

Cooma families now have more playground options to choo-choo-choose from with the iconic steam-train playground at Rotary Oval reopening from today, Thursday 7 May 2026, following the completion of significant repairs, equipment replacements, and general maintenance works.

A partial closure has been in place at the site since August 2023, after a deliberately lit fire destroyed play equipment-including the iconic steam train.

A local family favourite located at the end of Murray Street between the CBD and Cooma Creek, Council's civic maintenance team has been working closely with suppliers to ensure the unique character of the playground was fully restored.

The brand-new playground equipment and soft-fall material, including a better-than-ever steam train, are now in place and the site is ready to reopen.

Starting today, Thursday 7 May 2026, Cooma kids can once again catch the express service to Funsville-departing daily from Platform 1 at Cooma Rotary Oval Playground.

Council thanks residents for their patience while the site has been closed.
