Construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Coombes Road and Messmate Road, Torquay, started this week, improving safety for all road users.
To complete the works as quickly as possible the intersection of Coombes Road and Messmate Road has been closed during construction. The works are expected to take six to eight weeks to complete.
"It's great to see this final part of the Coombes Road upgrade start." Said Cr Adrian Schonfelder.
"Thank you to the community for everyone's continued patience and cooperation as we complete these important road safety improvements."
Access to all properties on Coombes Road and any surrounding roads that can only be accessed from Coombes Road will be maintained. A letter outlining access arrangements has been sent to all affected properties.
During these works, Coombes Road will be open for local traffic only. All through traffic should use Anglesea Road, Surf Coast Highway or Grossmans Road instead. VMS boards are in place to direct traffic away from the work area.
"We have noticed a significant drop in non-local traffic using Coombes Road. We appreciate drivers using alternative routes while these important works are underway," Cr Schonfelder said.
