Copper Theft Foiled In Broadmeadows

Two men have been arrested following a theft in Broadmeadows on 1 June.

It is alleged a perimeter fence was damaged and entry gained to the grounds of an industrial warehouse on Riggall Street about 3.40am.

A large quantity of copper piping & wiring was allegedly stolen and loaded into a Kia Carnival before the pair allegedly drove away.

Police Air Wing monitored the vehicle as it drove through Mernda streets before police on the ground successfully deployed stop sticks on Epping Road.

The Kia came to a stop on Waterwheel Grove where the men were arrested without incident by the Dog Squad and general duties members.

A 35-year-old Kalkallo man has been charged with theft, handle stolen goods, going equipped to Steal, trespass, deal with property suspected of being proceeds of crime, reckless conduct endangering serious injury and unlicenced driving.

He was bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates' Court on 30 September.
