Corangamite Shire councillors last night appointed an interim Chief Executive Officer to lead Council until a permanent CEO is found.

Mayor Ruth Gstrein said Michael Tudball will act in this role during the recruitment process.

"Michael has over 20 years' experience in senior leadership roles in local and state government," Cr Gstrein said.

"Certainly no stranger to local government, he was Chief Executive Officer of Southern Grampians Shire Council from 2016 until 2021.

"Most recently he has been Regional Director Barwon South West at Regional Roads Victoria.

"Michael has a passion for regional and rural communities.

"He is a well-regarded leader with vast experience in growth area planning and delivery, along with significant stakeholder and community engagement."

Outgoing CEO Andrew Mason will leave Corangamite Friday 27 January to take over the top job at Warrnambool City Council.

Mr Tudball will start on Monday 30 January.
