Council adopts Boroondara Reconciliation Strategy

We are pleased to announce the Boroondara Reconciliation Strategy 2022-26 was adopted by Council on Monday evening - a significant milestone in our journey to progressing reconciliation here in Boroondara.

We worked collaboratively and consulted with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and organisations to develop the Strategy, including Boroondara's Traditional Owners, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.

The Strategy communicates our collective vision for reconciliation, which is 'to create a welcoming community where the histories, cultures, knowledge, achievements and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are acknowledged, respected, considered and celebrated'.

The Strategy also aims to strengthen relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations and peoples so we can work in partnership together and with our broader community to progress reconciliation locally.

It outlines a clear, four-year roadmap for implementing reconciliation initiatives and contains a number of actions that will be undertaken.

We will officially launch the Strategy during National Reconciliation Week which runs from 27 May to 3 June 2022.
