Central Goldfields Shire Council adopted its Communications and Engagement Strategy 2021-2022 at last week's (27/04) Council Meeting, which outlines a framework for Council's new approach to communications and engagement.

The new Strategy outlines the community's need for transparency and openness from Council in its decision-making. Council received the following key insights from the community:

  • The biggest barrier to participation is knowing who to talk to in Council
  • Central Goldfields' community is so diverse there is no one size fits all approach to engagement
  • The community wants transparency from Council

During the consultation phase of the Draft Communications and Engagement Strategy, Council received feedback from more than 100 residents, Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor said.

"Thank you to everyone who took the time to provide feedback for the Strategy," he said.

"The Communications and Engagement Strategy will ensure more effective communication and engagement from Council as well as a series of improvements on how Council engages with the community. I am excited to see the community become more engaged in Council's consultation and decision-making."
