Council will seek NSW Government certification for the Lower Shoalhaven River Coastal Management Program (CMP) after it was adopted at Tuesday night's ordinary meeting.

The long-term strategic document guides how the organisation manages coastal hazards in the Shoalhaven River estuary, protects sensitive environments and heritage, and enhances public access.

The program outlines 57 management actions to be delivered over 10-years at a cost of approximately $23 million, with a Council contribution of around $7 million.

"This important document will guide how we address a variety of hazards in the area, including erosion and tidal inundation, and support improvements to amenity to ensure the community can continue to enjoy the estuary into the future," said Mayor, Patricia White.

"The CMP has been carefully prepared following extensive consultation with the community and key stakeholders. I'd like to thank all who provided their important feedback during the exhibition periods and applaud staff for their hard work on this program," she said.

"I'm pleased we're able to progress the CMP and I look forward to receiving certification from the NSW Government so we can get on with doing the work required to protect, preserve and enjoy the Lower Shoalhaven River," she said.

The CMP was prepared by Council in accordance with the NSW Coastal Management Act 2016.
