Council has formally adopted its updated Community Engagement Policy, reinforcing its commitment to transparent, inclusive and meaningful engagement with the community.
The revised policy outlines how Council will work with residents, community groups, businesses and stakeholders when shaping projects, strategies and decisions that impact the shire. It strengthens expectations around clear communication, accessible participation, and closing the loop with community members who take the time to provide feedback.
Mayor Naomi Joiner said the updated policy reflects Council's ongoing commitment to building trust and transparency.
"Engaging with our community is one of the most important things we do as a Council. This policy ensures that the voices, experiences and ideas of our residents continue to help guide the direction of our Shire," said Cr Joiner.
"We want people to feel confident that when they participate, whether it is online, in person or through written submissions that their contributions are valued and genuinely considered."
The Mayor said the policy also reinforces Council's responsibility to report back to participants and clearly explain how community input has shaped final decisions.
"Closing the loop is essential. Our community deserves to know how their feedback influenced outcomes, and this policy strengthens the ways we communicate decisions back to the people who engaged with us," Cr Joiner said.
The Community Engagement Policy sets objectives for engagement, ensuring processes are consistent, inclusive and fit-for-purpose across Council projects.
