Colac Otway Shire has appointed Andrew Tenni as its new Chief Executive Officer.

Councillors unanimously supported a motion to appoint Mr Tenni at today's monthly Council Meeting.

Mayor Jason Schram announced the appointment following a closed session of Council after a thorough recruitment process which attracted strong applicants.

"We are excited to announce that Andrew will be taking on the leadership role with Council. Andrew has been working in the CEO role in recent months in an interim capacity and has a very clear understanding of the overall operations of Council, having been the General Manager of Corporate Services for the past three years," Cr Schram said.

"As a Council group we have developed a close working relationship with Andrew since the elections late last year, and we were impressed by the way he presented throughout the recruitment process.

"Andrew has a very strong CEO background as a former CEO of the Magistrates Court of Victoria and held senior leadership roles in State Government. He has a very good understanding of the priorities of this Council and what we hope to achieve together."

Cr Schram said the appointment allowed Council to continue with its program delivery and pursue the objectives outlined in the Draft Council Plan, currently on public exhibition.

"We have a real commitment to supporting economic development and tourism opportunities, and we want this region to build on its lifestyle attractions. With this appointment we can maintain that focus and keep pushing for outcomes that make the shire an even better place to live, raise your family and thrive in your chosen profession.

"We look forward to working with Andrew and his team to continue to deliver the essential services our community needs, and to provide leadership and advocate for significant improvements for our region," Cr Schram said.

"Andrew and his family moved to Colac over three years ago, purchasing a property locally and have settled in nicely. They are committed to the region and are involved in the community. He has a desire to help improve this shire and we look forward to continuing our working relationship and delivering on our plans."
