Council Approves Ocean Grove Land Sale To Support Town Centre Revitalisation

Council has approved the sale of two parcels of City-owned land in Ocean Grove as part of plans to revitalise the town centre.

The land sales at 94 the Parade and 89-91 The Terrace are a step forward in progressing the Ocean Grove Urban Design Framework (UDF) and will unlock commercial development opportunities and enhance public spaces. The sales are also part of plans to deliver safer, more connected streetscapes at the intersection of Hodgson Street and The Parade, in partnership with the Department of Transport and Planning.

Adopted in 2014, the UDF was developed following extensive consultation from residents, businesses, community associations, sporting clubs, schools and government agencies.

The land at 94 The Parade, currently a reserve, will be rezoned to Commercial 1 Zone (C1Z) prior to sale. The site at 89–91 The Terrace is currently a car park and is already zoned Commercial 1 Zone (C1Z).

The sale is conditional on planning approvals and provisions to retain public car parking within the precinct. The market value of the land being sold will be reinvested into upgrades to the public realm in the immediate area.

The decision follows extensive community consultation, with 90 submissions received. A Submissions Review Panel was held in July, with one community member presenting their submission in person.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj OAM

This decision reflects Council's commitment to working with the community to improve the precinct to meet the needs of a growing area.

We thank everyone who took the time to provide feedback and help shape the outcome.

Chair of City Planning portfolio Councillor Andrew Katos

These sites have the potential to better support local business and improve town centre accessibility for locals and visitors.

The sale moves us closer to realising the community's vision for a town centre that maintains Ocean Grove's unique character and identity.
