Council Awards Flood Recovery Program Contracts

Toowoomba City Hall

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) has engaged two delivery partners, Golding Contractors Pty Ltd in the South and Georgiou Group Pty Ltd in the North, via collaborative contracts to assist in the delivery of the 2022 Flood Recovery Program.

TRC Infrastructure Committee Chair Cr Carol Taylor said this announcement came following two preferred partners being selected at the Ordinary Council Meeting in April.

"Council concluded negotiations following a competitive procurement process with strong market engagement, and we are confident the delivery partners we have selected have the capability, capacity and experience to deliver this program in addition to Council work teams," Cr Taylor said.

"As part of the agreement with our delivery partners, they will be prioritising the support of local businesses and suppliers and creating local job opportunities for sub-contractors to support our regional economy. We encourage local businesses to make the most of these opportunities."

The Flood Recovery works affect many locations across the Region over the next 18 months and will include various treatments to return damaged roads to their pre-flood condition. Treatments include desilting and repair of drainage structures, formation grades and in some instances re-sheeting, culvert replacements and repairs, sealed road repairs, shoulder regrading where damage has been caused by flooding events.

"We will be seeing a large amount of Flood Recovery Works being conducted once our contractors start works on ground in August, alongside our internal works crews who continue their ongoing repair work post-flood, and we encourage road users to continue to be vigilant around all road works sites, following the direction of traffic management personnel and traffic management signage, to ensure the community, our Council employees and our contract partners all get home safely," Cr Taylor said.

The full scope of the Program will be delivered jointly by Council's internal Construction and Maintenance teams and the two selected contractors, Georgiou Group and Golding Contractors, with funding provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth/State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).
