More than 60 community organisations across Indigo Shire will benefit from over $127,000 awarded through three Council grant programs, supporting vital community events, projects and sustainability initiatives throughout the region.
The 2025/26 Event Grants Program will distribute $60,000 among 22 successful applicants to support diverse community events across the Shire. Funded events range from major festivals like the Beechworth Biennale and Spring Ditch, to agricultural shows, music performances, community carols, and local celebrations including the new Yackandandah Christmas Open House and the Wooragee Easter Market.
A further $50,000 has been awarded to 35 community groups through the Community Grants Program. This funding will support essential projects including facility improvements at local sporting clubs, equipment purchases, landscaping works, community programs, and infrastructure upgrades benefiting organisations from Rutherglen to Yackandandah.
In the sustainability space, $17,070 has been distributed through the Community Sustainability Grants Program to six applicants. These projects focus on renewable energy, habitat restoration, native vegetation enhancement, energy efficiency improvements, and innovative climate resilience initiatives.
Mayor Sophie Price said the grants programs demonstrate Council's commitment to supporting the community organisations and volunteers who strengthen our townships and bring people together.
"The breadth and quality of applications this year really showcase the vibrancy and dedication of our community," Mayor Price said.
"These programs provide much-needed financial support while recognising the wonderful work of organisations right across the Shire, predominantly run by hardworking volunteers.
"From major cultural events that attract visitors to our region, to local sporting clubs maintaining their facilities, to community groups working to protect our natural environment, these grants touch every aspect of community life in Indigo Shire."
