Rockhampton Regional Council is continuing its strong support for around-the-clock aeromedical care by waiving more than $68,000 in airport landing fees for local rescue helicopter service, CapRescue.
Over a 12-month period, the service transported 581 people from Central Queensland, undertaking emergency missions and inter-hospital transfers.
Deputy Mayor Drew Wickerson said the aeromedical service is vital to the safety and wellbeing of the region.
"CapRescue provides an important service for our community, often being the difference between life and death for people in urgent need of medical help," Deputy Mayor said.
"We're proud to reimburse $68,833.81 in airport landing fees as one way of supporting their mission and recognising the value they bring to Central Queensland.
"Our support ensures that CapRescue can keep flying, delivering expert care when and where it's needed most, from remote properties to busy highways."
With an average of three life-saving missions every two days, CapRescue's operations are both tireless and essential.
CapRescue Chief Executive Officer Darren Pirie reaffirmed the service's vital role across Central Queensland, noting more than 580 missions and over 900 flight hours during the landing fee period to deliver lifesaving care throughout the region.
"Inter-hospital transfers make up the majority of our work, with more than 360 patients flown from regional facilities to access the advanced medical care they need," Mr Pirie said.
"We've also responded to serious incidents including road crashes, machinery accidents, and remote search and rescue.
"With the operating costs through this time exceeding $14 million, every contribution counts.
"Rockhampton Regional Council's continued support, including the return of landing fees, reflects a strong commitment to community safety.
"Their backing helps keep Rescue300 flying, and we're proud to work together to safeguard the people of this region."
