Young people have an opportunity to help shape Corangamite Shire's future by sharing feedback on Council's new Youth Strategy.
Council has released a draft Youth Strategy 2026-2030, and is seeking feedback on the initiatives which aim to create opportunities and remove barriers for young people.
The voices of more than 520 young people aged 12 to 25 have helped shape the draft strategy, with Council hosting in-person consultations across the Shire as well as engaging young people via online platforms and the Corangamite Shire Youth Summit in October.
Mayor Cr Kate Makin said the draft Youth Strategy aimed to make sure young people felt connected and valued across Corangamite.
"Young people are the heart of our future, and their ideas help shape the Corangamite we all want to see," Cr Makin said.
"We've listened to their voices because the choices we make today will shape their tomorrow," she said.
"This strategy reflects what young people told us matters most, but now we want to make sure we've got it right to ensure we have a plan that truly supports our youth."
Key initiatives in the strategy include improving participation and engagement, building financial and workplace literacy, advocating for safe and flexible transport, and involving young people in climate action and decision-making.
Cr Makin encouraged people of all ages to read the strategy and share their views.
"Strong communities listen to their young people, and this consultation is about doing exactly that. We want this strategy to reflect local needs," she said.
"We're seeking feedback from everyone, with a special focus on youth voices."
