Rockhampton Regional Council is celebrating Parks Week by shining a spotlight on the 150-plus parks and open spaces that bring our region to life.

Australasian Parks Week runs from 2–9 March and celebrates the role our green infrastructure plays in our community.

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said Rockhampton's parks serve as essential community hubs.

"Whether it's the Botanic or Kershaw Gardens, or the parks in our neighbourhoods, these green spaces breathe so much life into our community," Cr Rutherford said.

"Our parks are so well loved. They help promote physical and mental wellbeing, they're an important part of the ecosystem, and, of course, they create many wonderful memories with friends and families.

"Parks Week is a great time to celebrate our wonderful spaces and also those who play a part in the huge job of maintaining them. I really encourage the community to get out and explore our great spaces—not just this week, but as often as they can."

Rockhampton Regional Council Open Spaces and Recreation Manager Tom Svenson praised the parks team for their hard work in maintaining the region's open spaces all year round.

"Our crews maintain more than 150 parks and open spaces across the Rockhampton region, through mowing, hedging, planting, irrigating or mulching, just to name a few," Mr Svenson said.

"It's a big job, but when you work in some of the most fantastic gardens and open spaces in the country, it doesn't feel like a chore."
