Council conducts feasibility study into Transfer Station resale shops

Council received a $10,000 Recycling Victoria Councils Fund grant from the Victorian Government through Sustainability Victoria to conduct the study.

JustWaste Consulting have been appointed by Council to conduct the feasibility study and there will be opportunities for the community to engage in this process.

The project was one of 26 successful projects in the first round of the Recycling Victoria Councils Fund.

Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor Cr Chris Raeburn said the introduction of a resale shop would further Council's goal to sustainably manage its natural and built environment, through further diversion of waste from landfill.

"Resale shops can also create local employment opportunities or income for community groups, and access to pre-loved goods at affordable rates for members of our community and those who visit," Cr Raeburn said.

The study will provide Council with an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities of introducing the best value-for-money approach to installing a resale shop.

"There will be further opportunities for community members to provide their feedback on this project moving forward," Cr Raeburn said.

Cr Raeburn said Council was proud to encourage the re-use, repair, sharing and correct recycling of everyday items.

This project is supported by the Recycling Victoria Councils Fund, delivered by Sustainability Victoria on behalf of the Victorian Government.
