Kiama Municipal Council has achieved a significant milestone in strengthening its asset management framework, completing a suite of updated plans and strategies that will guide the care and renewal of community assets for the next decade.

Over the past 12 months, Council has delivered:

  • Asset Management Policy 2025-2030
  • Strategic Asset Management Plan 2025-2030
  • Asset Management Plans for Roads, Stormwater Drainage, Footpaths & Cycleways, and Recreation, Open Space and Other Structures (2025-2030)
  • Asset Management Maturity Assessment 2025
  • Asset Disposal Policy
  • Annual Asset Management Strategy 2026-2027 (internal improvement strategy)

These plans provide a clear roadmap for maintaining and improving essential infrastructure, ensuring assets are managed sustainably and efficiently. While some documents are internal, such as the Annual Asset Management Strategy and Maturity Assessment, they play a critical role in driving continuous improvement.

Council has also enhanced key processes to ensure consistent standards, including:

  • Asset handover process and procedure manual (internal)
  • Asset acceptance/handover process for contributed assets (external, in progress)
  • Asset disposal process and procedure manual

Further improvements are planned over the next 12 months, focusing on documentation and contingency planning to maintain high standards. This includes refining practices such as asset revaluation, spatial processing, defect management, and forecasting for capital and maintenance works.

Director of Infrastructure and Operations Darren Brady said: "This is a major step forward for Kiama Council. These policies and plans ensure we are managing community assets responsibly and sustainably, now and into the future."

Council CEO Jane Stroud said: "Having this framework in place delivers strong governance, which is something Council has been directed to review under our Performance Improvement Order. It also helps Council focus on practical improvements that benefit residents every day."
