Rockhampton Regional Council today celebrated 30 years of ongoing support for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) (Queensland Section) by waiving more than $156,000 in airport landing fees over the past 12 months.

Over the past three decades, Council has contributed more than $1.79 million through reimbursed landing fees, staff donations, and fundraising efforts.

Mayor Tony Williams said Council is proud to continue the tradition of ensuring this vital funding stays with the service to support their life-saving work.

"The RFDS (Queensland Section) is more than just an emergency transport service; they are a lifeline for countless individuals and families across our region," Mayor Williams said.

"We all hope we never need their services, but we are incredibly fortunate to have them on standby, ready to respond in those times when every second counts.

"This $156,785.59 reimbursement is more than a donation; it's an investment in the health and wellbeing of every Central Queenslander, ensuring world-class care is never out of reach, no matter where you live.

"We're proud to uphold a 30-year legacy of support, helping RFDS channel funds into vital medical equipment, staff training, and compassionate patient care."

The RFDS (Queensland Section) completed more than 2,625 patient transfers to and from the Rockhampton Airport in the past year alone, providing critical care to those in regional, rural and remote areas.

Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) Chief Executive Officer Meredith Staib said the continued support from Rockhampton Regional Council plays a vital role in helping the organisation deliver critical healthcare services across the region.

"Rockhampton continues to be one of our busiest bases, and we're incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from Rockhampton Regional Council," Ms Staib said.

"Their continued partnership allows us to make a difference in the lives of those across Queensland when they need us most.

"We look forward to continuing to collaborate with Council to ensure the finest care is delivered to the furthest corner."
