Council Eyes Fuel Supply, Price Pressure Impact

MidCoast Council

MidCoast Council is closely monitoring the impact current fuel supply and price pressures may have on day-to-day operations across the region.

MidCoast Council General Manager Adrian Panuccio said there is no change to Council services at this stage.

"At this stage, there is no change to Council services. We are continuing to deliver planned work and operations while proactively considering our options as the situation evolves," Mr Panuccio said.

Mr Panuccio said Council is working closely with local suppliers and contractors and is actively monitoring fuel usage across its operations.

"Our priority is to continue delivering essential services and maintenance for the MidCoast community," he said.

Mr Panuccio said the situation is creating challenges for local government, particularly where fuel is critical to maintaining frontline services, transport and operational works.

"If fuel prices remain high for an extended period, Council may need to reassess how some services are delivered in order to manage increased operational costs," Mr Panuccio said.

"If any changes become necessary, we will make sure the community is informed."

MidCoast Council supports calls from the Australian Local Government Association for councils to be recognised as an important part of the national response to fuel supply challenges.

Local government plays an essential role in keeping community services operating, particularly in regional areas, and a coordinated policy response is needed to support councils through ongoing fuel pressures.
