Hume City Council congratulates Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Australian Labor Party on their win in the 2025 Australian federal election.

Additionally, we acknowledge the Members elected to represent Hume over the next three years: Jo Briskey for Maribyrnong, Sam Rae for Hawke, Andrew Giles for Scullin, and Rob Mitchell for McEwen. The race for the seat of Calwell remains too close to call.

These five federal electorates reach across Hume City, which is one of the largest municipalities in Greater Melbourne; the race to, and outcome of, a Federal Election have real and ongoing impacts for our residents.

In the lead up to this year's election Council met with the candidates of the major parties to highlight a list of priority projects that our community needs. We are grateful that many of those candidates heard and understood the needs of our community and we were able to secure the following commitments from the Labor Government:

  • Duplication of Mickleham Road between Dellamore Boulevard and Craigieburn Road, Greenvale

  • Upgrade of Donnybrook Road from Mitchell Street to Dwyer Street, Kalkallo

  • Construction of a new pavilion at Dwyer Street Recreation Reserve

  • Construction of a second pitch at the Hume Hockey and Lacrosse Centre

  • Building a new synthetic green and shade sails at the Gladstone Park Bowls Club

In total over $390m in commitments was secured for our city – for projects that improve congestion on our arterial road networks and those that contribute to enhance the health and wellbeing of our community which will improve livability for all our residents.

Quotes attributable to Hume City Mayor, Cr Jarrod Bell:

"The election may be over, but work is not done. We will continue to advocate to the State and Federal Governments for projects that will improve connectivity and ensure that access to community facilities and services keeps pace with our rapidly growing city."

"We thank those that contested in this year's election and look forward to those elected Members of Parliament working with us as they represent our community in Canberra."

"We also thank everyone in Hume who engaged with the electoral process, making their voices heard about the issues that affect them day-to-day, and on what our leaders should be doing to make their lives and our community better. "
