Hume City Council's Arts Grants Program is on again for 2026, supporting artists, creatives and organisations to upskill, develop new projects, and contribute to Hume's vibrant arts and cultural community.

The annual program provides funding to help creators share their art or cultural and heritage practice while making a lasting contribution to the Hume community.

Previous grant recipient, Melbourne/Naarm‑based artist Nur Terzi, says the program helped her progress her art in a time when she was building her craft.

"I heard about the program through the council's newsletter. I'd been in numerous workshops prior to that, and when I heard about the grant opportunity, I thought I'll try my luck," Nur said.

"As a part‑time artist at the time, I was striving and trying to look for ways to progress my art."

Nur's work brings together classical Turkish art forms including Ebru marbling (traditional paper marbling), Tezhip illumination (decorative manuscript gilding), and Hat (Arabic calligraphy in the Turkish tradition).

She encourages artists who may be unsure about applying to take the leap and seek support through the Arts Grants Program.

"If there's anyone who's seen the arts program, and is thinking about it, I would say definitely go and apply for it," she said.

"If you are a passionate artist, and if you've got a vision, and serving the community brings you joy, definitely go for it."

Individuals, groups and organisations with ideas to deliver impactful arts initiatives are encouraged to apply. Funding is available for small‑scale creative activities, professional development opportunities, and large‑scale creative projects.

Grants range from up to $3,000 for Creative Activity Grants to $20,000 for Creative Project Grants, providing valuable support to help artists bring their ideas to life and make their mark in Hume.

Applications are strongly encouraged from diverse and underrepresented communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Applications for the current round close on Tuesday 10 March at 5pm.
