Council House Lighting Upgrade

Preparations are underway to upgrade the external Council House feature lighting.

The external coloured lighting system is iconic to Perth and has been lit up in support of major events, as well as a mark of respect during global incidents.

Chair Commissioner Andrew Hammond said the existing lighting system has reached the end of its life cycle, making it difficult to service and maintain.

"It's had a pretty good run, but like all technology it has now been superseded," Chair Commissioner Hammond said.

"The current system was installed in 2009, when LED technology was relatively new and replacement is the best option, rather than trying to repair ongoing faults".

"The upgrade will mean the external lighting feature will be turned off while work is carried out, but the new installation is expected to be completed by mid-December, further complimenting the City's Christmas celebrations."

It's expected the installation will cost approximately $2 million and be cheaper to run because of the improved technology.
