Council installs guardrail on Bettington Road Oatlands

City of Parramatta Council has installed a guardrail along the section of Bettington Road in Oatlands where four children were tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident on 1 February.

"The community is still reeling from the devastating loss of Antony, Angelina, and Sienna Abdallah, and their cousin Veronique Sakr," City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.

"The guardrail is the first of the measures that Council is implementing to address community concerns about pedestrian safety along Bettington Road following this tragic incident."

Council resolved last month to install the guardrail, as well as a roundabout at the intersection of York and Bettington Roads.

Installation of the guardrail is now complete.

Community consultation has already commenced on the installation of the roundabout, with the matter to be considered at the next Parramatta Traffic Committee meeting at the end of March.

"While the road condition was not identified by authorities as a factor, Council has listened to the local community," Cr Dwyer said.

Council also exploring options for a memorial with the children's families.
