The first Council Meeting of the year was held on Tuesday 17 February and it was an important opportunity to set our focus for key areas of work moving forward.
We opened the meeting by recognising the life and legacy of Aunty Mary-Lou Buck, a proud Dunghutti woman whose dedication to education, culture and community has left a lasting mark on our shire. It was important to formally acknowledge her contribution. Council also flew flags at half-mast on Thursday 19 February, the day of her funeral, in honour of her service and leadership.
Council unanimously supported a Mayoral Minute addressing antisocial behaviour and the increasing pressures faced by staff. The resolution reaffirmed support for the operational steps already underway and the need for coordinated action to address the deeper causes behind these issues.
We also received progress updates on priorities for South West Rocks and Crescent Head, along with development activity and financial reporting. The Corporate Performance Report outlined achievements under the Delivery Program and Operational Plan, while acknowledging the impact that disaster recovery continues to have on some scheduled works. The report also highlighted progress within the Financial Sustainability Program
It was a comprehensive meeting, and I encourage residents to read the agenda and stay informed about the work Council is progressing at ksc.pub/agenda
Clean Up Australia Day – Let's work together
Clean Up Australia Day is fast approaching, and Councillors and I warmly invite residents, businesses, community groups and families to get involved. Every piece of rubbish removed makes a difference for our environment, for local businesses and for community pride.
Community pride is something we build together. Whether you can spare an hour or the whole morning, your support matters. Schools, business and community are encouraged to take part between 24 and 1 March 2026, with designated days for each group.
You can join an organised event or simply clean up around your home, street or local park. To find local clean-ups or register your own, visit www.cleanup.org.au/get-involved
