Council is opening its doors to the community with the inaugural Careers Fair on Tuesday 2 September 2025, giving job seekers, students and professionals the chance to explore the diverse career opportunities available in local government.
The Careers Fair will showcase the wide range of employment pathways Council offers – from apprenticeships and traineeships to specialist professional roles – while highlighting the benefits of building a long-term and rewarding career with Council.
Attendees will have the opportunity to:
- Hear from staff who have built long-standing careers at Council.
- Meet hiring managers and discover current vacancies.
- Learn about employee benefits and training opportunities.
- Gain first-hand insight into Council's workplace culture.
The event also marks the launch of Round 1 of the 2026 apprenticeship and traineeship intake – an exciting opportunity for motivated individuals to kickstart their career journey with Council.
Cairns Mayor Amy Eden said the Careers Fair is a chance for the community to see the many different ways Council supports the region through employment.
"You don't have to leave town to build an exciting career. Council employs people across so many fields, from construction crews and librarians to IT specialists and event planners. This Careers Fair is about making those opportunities real and showing people how they can be part of the team that keeps Cairns moving," Cr Eden said.
Alongside career insights, attendees can enjoy a free sausage sizzle and take home a native tree seedling as a memento of the day.
The Career Fair will be held on Tuesday, 2 September 2025 from 4.30pm – 6.30pm in the Cairns Regional Council Civic Reception Rooms at the Spence Street offices.
