Council notes progress in Transformation Program 2.0

City of Greater Geelong Councillors have noted progress in the City's Transformation Program 2.0.

The Transformation Program was primarily developed to ensure that the 12 key recommendations and 25 secondary recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry report are carried out.

Transformation Program 2.0 continues the work undertaken during the first phase of the transformation program and now focuses on six critical areas of change with projects being monitored under these.

The six focus areas are Civic Accommodation, Digital Modernisation, Asset Management, Advocacy and Stakeholder Management, People and Culture, and Service Planning and Review.

The December 2020 report presented to Council this week highlighted the key achievements within the past six months.

This includes the endorsement of the final Social Infrastructure Policy and Plan in July.

City of Greater Geelong Mayor Stephanie Asher said the Social Infrastructure Policy would ensure future investment in community infrastructure and services is clear, fair, equitable, and based on evidence of need and insights from our community.

We have also progressed Our Clever Together Project, which incorporates construction of our new Civic Precinct and the upgrade of our digital capability through our Digital Modernisation Program.
There will be continued focus on transforming and improving workplace culture at the City, through delivery of the Working Better Together program.

Councillor Belinda Moloney said like many long-term plans, progress of the Transformation Program had been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Over the past year, much of our asset management and service planning focus was diverted to COVID-19 response and community support.
However, we were able to quickly adapt and not only provide much-needed support to our community but maximise any opportunities to reflect on and progress our priorities.
For example, Working for Victoria funding enabled us to recruit 19 new employees and redeploy 15 internal employees to collect vital data on council assets to help guide future infrastructure planning.
We look forward to seeing continuous progress in this important program for the City over the coming months and years.
