Council OKs 2025-26 Budget to Boost Boroondara's Future

Guided by our Boroondara Community Plan, councillors have developed, consulted on, and passed our 2025-26 budget. This budget outlines how we will deliver on the community's priorities over the next 4 years.

At the core of the 2025-26 budget are the services residents rely upon every single day, from bin collection, library services, to maintenance of open spaces - all of which have been given ongoing or increased funding. Council is also continuing strong investment to maintain Boroondara's streets and footpaths, with $16.27 million earmarked to replace, refurbish and repair roads, footpaths and kerbs across our city.

This year's budget includes extensive funding to support the aspirations and growth of young people, with $2.18 million for playground upgrades and $11.93 million for sporting pavilion upgrades. Over the next 4 years more than $27 million will be spent upgrading sporting pavilions to 'level the playing field' and help ensure equitable access to sport in Boroondara with a focus on increasing female participation in sport.

Councillor Sophie Torney, Mayor of Boroondara hailed the new budget, saying, "This budget supports the services people rely on every day but importantly, this budget also begins to shift focus toward the future we know is coming.

"We've committed nearly $16 million over 4 years for real, local action on climate change. More than $2.5 million for our tree canopy. Nearly $2 million to support biodiversity. $3 million towards greenways to encourage active travel.

These are not just line items. They're signals that we've heard the community and we're stepping up."

The final budget was passed unanimously by councillors following a period of consultation and feedback from community members.

Mayor Torney concluded by saying, "At $280 million, this is a big budget. But it's not about big numbers, it's about big intent. And every dollar here is part of a broader commitment to ensure Boroondara grows with vision, equity and care."
