Townsville City Council crews and local contractors have begun work to restore footpaths on Flinders Street West – supporting up 15 local jobs.
The project includes new footpaths between Morris St and Blackwood St, 3 upgraded bus stops and new kerbs and channelling for the Morris St and Knapp St intersections.
Deputy Mayor Les Walker said the upgrades will refresh the streetscape in the CBD.
"The current footpath needs upgrading and this project will make it easier and safer for pedestrians to get around," Cr Walker said.
"Our footpaths are a vital part of our city which is why Council is committed to upgrading the pathways right across the city."
Cr Walker said the project was a further example of the effort and investment being committed to revitalise the CBD and surrounding precincts.
"Council is spending nearly $400 million this financial year to deliver top-class infrastructure throughout the community and support jobs for locals," Cr Walker said.
Work is expected to be complete in April.
