Rockhampton Regional Council is reminding residents that domestic waste charges will not be affected by the State Government's new waste levy, which comes in to effect on Monday, 1 July.
Chair of Council's Waste Committee, Councillor Neil Fisher, said Council wanted to allay any concerns residents might have about the new charge.
"Before anyone gets worried about rising costs, we wanted to reassure residents that there will be no new fees for household and self-haul waste only," Cr Fisher said.
"The Queensland Government is introducing the levy as part of their strategy to help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill.
"This means that from 1 July a charge of $75 per tonne will apply to some waste, but the State Government is covering the levy for household and self-haul waste.
"This means residential properties and people dropping off domestic waste at our transfer stations won't see any increase in price."
