Council Rehomes or Reunites All Seized Dogs

Shellharbour City Council returned or rehomed 100% of seized dogs between January and March this year. It's just one of many positive outcomes from the latest quarterly review of Council's services and projects.

The Third Quarter Review of the Delivery Program and Operational Plan 2024-2025 tracks what Council delivered between 1 January and 31 March. It highlights how Council is making progress on the goals set out in the Community Strategic Plan.

Mayor Chris Homer said the report reflects strong progress across Council's key focus areas of Community, Environment, Economy and Leadership.

"We're delivering outcomes that make a real difference. From reuniting pets with their families to building infrastructure and supporting local events, this report shows the work happening across our city" he said.

"We're proud to have 97 percent of our planned actions on track. We'll keep listening to the community and focusing on what matters most."

Highlights from the third quarter include:

Community Services

  • 100% of seized dogs were reunited with their owners or rehomed
  • More than 3,500 people attended 40 free events during the Seniors Festival
  • Over $24,000 in ClubGRANT funding supported 31 community groups and charities
  • 172,764 items borrowed from Council libraries
  • 178,508 visits to Council pools
  • 11,800 customer service calls answered

Environment and infrastructure

  • $9.4 million spent on building and infrastructure renewal projects
  • 4,000 native plants added to flying-fox habitats, bringing the total to 21,300
  • 2,467 parks and reserves mowed on schedule

The report confirms that 97 percent of Council's planned actions are on track. Any remaining items are being closely monitored.
