Delivering on its vision for a liveable region, Rockhampton Regional Council has completed major upgrades at two popular Rockhampton parks.

New shade structures have been fitted at Anderson Park in Wandal and Curtis Park in Allenstown with new playground equipment installed earlier this year.

The upgrades are part of Council's multi-million dollar Playground Renewal Program, a long-term investment dedicated to transforming local parks into modern, welcoming places for the whole community.

Mayor Tony Williams said outdoor playgrounds and parks help make the region a great place for families to live.

"Having places for the kids to run around outside and families to meet is really important for a community," said Mayor Williams.

"Our parks and playgrounds are backyards for everyone to share, and we want to make sure they're places people want to actually go and hang out.

"That's why we're continuing to invest in upgrades like new shade structures and modern play equipment, so families can enjoy these spaces comfortably all year round."

Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the improvements reflect community needs, with the region's climate in mind.

"Council's playground renewal program aims to provide not only modern equipment for active families but also shade where possible to protect visitors from our sunny conditions," said Cr Rutherford.

"We know our parks, playgrounds and open spaces are incredibly important to the community - places to connect with family and friends, enjoy nature and stay active.

"It's always a balance between being cost‑conscious for ratepayers while ensuring our facilities remain first‑class."

Cr Rutherford said both Curtis and Anderson Parks now offer upgraded equipment and shaded play areas.

"Anderson Park features climbing walls, an all‑abilities hammock swing, slides and other equipment, while Curtis Park's incorporates a new climbing wall, swing and slide," Cr Rutherford said.
