Townsville City Council crews are just over halfway through this year's free kerbside hard waste collection – passing over 40,000 properties so far.
Deputy Mayor Cr Les Walker said Council is pleased with the success of kerbside collections this year.
"Crews have already picked up 1,600 tonnes of rubbish and each pile is averaging around 116 kg," Cr Walker said.
"217 tonnes of this waste has been diverted for recycling, including white goods, steel and e-waste."
Cr Walker urged residents to follow instructions on what items should and shouldn't be put out for collection.
"We do ask that residents don't put their waste on the kerb until the week leading up to their collection start date.
"Residents can find a list of what staff can collect on Council's website, but we do need to stress that we can't pick up any demolition or commercial building waste."
Recyclables and green waste are also free to dispose of at Council's waste facilities all year round.
